Formerly the Bali Hilton, the 541-room Ayodya Resort Bali is a sprawling, upscale beachside property with an enormous spa, a fitness center, a colorful kids' club with a big playground, and lagoon-style and infinity pools. Extensive meeting facilities also make the Ayodya Resort an obvious venue for conferences and events, and there are plenty of restaurants with cuisine ranging from Italian pastas to Japanese teppanyaki. Most rooms have attractive Balinese decor and marble bathrooms are lovely, though some furniture looks a touch dated -- still, they're a great value for this caliber. While the beachside location makes the Ayodya Resort a popular choice, just note that there's little within walking distance.

Le Meridien Bali Jimbaran

Located on Bali's southern coast, the hotel is ideal for quiet relaxation, with an elegant spa, a kids' club, a library, a modern gym with cardio and weight equipment, and a peaceful infinity pool abutting the ocean. Three meeting rooms for up to 180 people are also available. There are numerous on-site dining options, ranging from a casual pool bar to a themed buffet restaurant, which frequently features traditional dance and music performances.

Mercure Bali Nusa Dua

This mid-sized, upper-middle-range hotel in Nusa Dua is a well-maintained property with extensive facilities without the luxury resort feel or high prices of other hotels in this posh area. Although it's removed from the beach, guests get free access to the nearby Mercure Beach Club, with lounge chairs, thatched huts, and free towel service. A free shuttle runs from the hotel to the beach. More functional and modern than traditional or romantic, the smallish rooms all come with extras such as free bottled water and mini-fridges. Although there is free shuttle service to nearby beaches and malls, most major attractions at least a 20-minute drive away, which makes it a better pick for golfers and those looking to spend some quiet time by the pool than for travelers expecting a beach getaway. Still, Le Grande Bali is by far the cheapest upscale option in the area.

Formerly the Puri Nusa Dua, the 172-room Vouk Hotel & Suites is an upper-middle-range property that offers decent value for money. Rooms are spacious and sunny with amenities such as flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and minibars, as well as balconies furnished with daybeds. They’re in good shape overall, but there have been some complaints of moldy showers. The property has a casual restaurant serving international and Indonesian cuisine (but food gets mixed reviews), and a long shaded pool lined with padded loungers. There's also a pleasant spa with treatment cabins for couples as well as a small fitness center. The hotel's location is a little isolated, but free shuttle service to Bali Collection and Geger Beach -- where the Vouk has free loungers for guests -- is available several times a day.
